SMB problems on Xbox One

Hi, just installed yesterday app on Xbox One, works really well as expected from VLC, best player ever. Tried some mkv that didn't work on Xbox One Microsoft's own player but found a problem while connecting to a SMB drive. It asks for user/pass but after entering it the app just closes (checked several times). User/pass I enter are verified ok (tested from a laptop).

About the interface I think separated buttons for audio and subtitles would be better, and allow pressing the button to change them instead of open a menu (maybe another button for menu with advanced settings for audio/subs), but this is just a suggestion. Also would be nice to add the posibility to connect to UPNP Kodi server, I wasn't able to see it from VLC.

Anyway, nice work, thanks you a lot for getting us VLC for Xbox!

I seem to have a similar problem. I enter a username password, there is a pause (progress) and then the app closes (on xbox one)

I just came to report a strange issue that might help you guys out.

I was trying to get to a network share on domain server, and I couldn't get it to work. After a while, I finally checked the server authentication logs, and I noticed something odd in the failed auth requests. It looks like VLC is submitting the domain and username reversed, i.e. the server is receiving the user name in the domain field, and the domain in the user name field. So that part where VLC is telling you to submit the login as DOMAIN;username, try it the other way around, username;DOMAIN. Even if you aren't on a domain, try specifying it with whatever the name of your computer is in the place of the domain. If it is submitting the credentials wrong, explicitly specifying the authenticating server flipped around might let you connect properly.

All Windows 7-10 OS (desktop/laptop)

right click on "Network Icon" on the bottom right side usually next to the clock

right click "Open Network and Sharing Centre" (window will appear)

click "Advanced sharing settings" (on the side)

go to "All Networks (tab)" (section)

go to "Pass word-protected sharing" (sub-section)

click on "Turn off password-protected sharing" (circle / radio checkbox)

click on "Save changes" (done)

THEN....

on your VLC app on your device "close it" or "restart the app" or restart the device or phone

you see it WORKS NOW!

The control panel stuff may be of use if you're accessing a share on a Windows box, but for those of using a NAS device or similar, here's what solved this for me.

Assuming you don't have a domain, as most of us home users won't, enter your username as:

;username

That it's starting it with a semicolon, essentially leaving the domain part blank.

That solved it for me.
Please let me know if that solved it for anyone else.

Hi there,

I have above issue and nothing mentioned above could not help me. I have Xbox one s, and trying to connect to NAS Synology DS114. On my laptop, with win10 I have vlc for windows store and it is working without an issue (it asked for log in like on Xbox, but I entered what needed and all good). On Xbox, it does not work at all.
Please help.

I can connect to smb shares on the xbox one x, but it is annoying to have to type in the username and password for every share on the same server. Second, if you restart your xbox, you have to start all over again. Is there a way to create persistent credentials? Is there a way to use the xbox account directly for the share, that would be even better.
A few other pet peeves: (First I love VLC, always have) but I would like the ability to go straight to favorite folders by folder, and also have a details view instead of 3 lines accross. Some file names are very long. Last but not least, can VLC get SMB 3 support? SMB1 is so 1980's...
