Unable to open m3u files?

Hello. I am a new Win 8.1 user, and I got the VLC app for my start menu. However, I cannot get it to recognize .m3u files, and I am unable to locate it on my computer to make it the default player for these.. any help? (I am hoping this is the right place to ask about the VLC player I downloaded from the Win App store).

Hello

Nice to see that it's ongoing. This could allow me to watch TV stream from my french ADSL box (freebox) on my WP. I used Box'n TV app on my previous smartphone (maybe based on vlc ?), but on Windows Phone, I've not find any app which could do the same. (if you know one, please share)
This option would be greatly appreciated for a huge amount of french people

Any idea of the approxamitve release date ?
