LAN Access

Postby BenHagers » 20 Mar 2015 19:53

One of the things I'm missing in all the media player apps is the ability to access files (video/music/etc) with a LAN connection (Wifi), so you can access the wanted file(s) by browsing your NAS.
Is there a chance that this feature will be there in the future ?

LAN browsing is in the works, yes.

Now LAN access partially works (VLC for windows store) on Windows 10.
I have network location mounted as "Z:" drive and attached to my music/video library (LAN NAS drive). When VLC starts, network files are listed on Videos and Music tabs but when I tray to play them error message shows up "media location cannot be read." What is strange when i open them by clicking "hamburger menu" -> file -> "brows files" they works perfectly.

I had to add the network location to windows media player library location let it index within media player then when launching vlc it would load the files. It does have a 1-2 minute lag while it accesses the library index and loads it. That takes about 2-3 minutes but is relatively quick.
