VLC VR?

Postby neosettler » 07 Mar 2018 00:36

Greetings everyone,

I'm wondering if VLC supports HTC Vive and/or Oculus Rift? If not, is there any plans to do so in the future?

Thank you,

Hi there,

There is plans and existing work on this. It should be available for VLC 4.0 if things go as planned.

How about the possibility of a MacOS Version.
Currently there so no (zero!) VR Video Player for MacOS.
Maybe your team could really help out.

All the best

Hi,

The current VR engine is written in old compatible openGL so it might be compatible with macosx, and there is not much to do with the interface to integrate it. But it is completely untested on macosx currently.

I would be happy to test it!

It has never been compiled for macosx and I can't make a macosx version currently, so you'll need to try compiling it unfortunately. I don't know at the moment what would be needed to make it work in the interface though :/

If you really want to test it, it would be much much easier to start a linux VM instead.

On Mac OS all VR Software runs via SteamVR at the moment afaik. Does VLC 4 use that?
Right now, i found out I can use Final Cut or Premiere as VR Video Players. They both connect to the Vive via SteamVR.
Compiling with XCode shouldnt be the Problem.
