Feature Request: support of playlists made by VLC for Windows

Postby lilbarby » 13 Mar 2015 07:35

support of playlists made by VLC for Windows will be useful.

If I make a .xspf or .m3u or .m3u8 or .html playlist file with newest VLC Rincewind, and copy this files into my musicfolder or into the separated own playlist folder of the Nokia they cannot be recognized by VLC WPhone nor I can find them with the folder function.

Same issue for me in that VLC is not picking up my Playlist in the Windows Phone \Phone\Playlists folder. Other music apps including Microsoft's Music app seem to have same problem. But the Monochrome Audioplayer app I use in lieu of the MS Music app does find the playlists. I have my extensive music library organized with MediaMonkey on PC and it syncs directly with the phone including playlist. My synced playlist are PLA format, but MediaMonkey is able to create playlist in M3U, M3u8, PLS, XSPF, ASX, and WAX formats also.

I don't know much about playlist formats but PLA seem to be the Windows Phone default. When the phone is connected to a computer, If you right-click on a music folder with tracks in it, you can select "Create Playlist" and a .pla file is what the phone creates (or what the computer creates on the phone). Ironically the phone creates the .pla file in the Music folder instead of placing it in the Playlist folder. ??? My music app, Monochrome Audioplayer, picks the playlist up in both locations so I think I will just sync everything to the Music folder from now on and forget about the Playlist folder.

A Wiki I found shows various playlist formats including the PLA. I am not advocating the PLA. Actually it looks like M3U is the way to go since my brief study indicates it is the most popular playlist format used.
