Subtitles delay (movie on smb-drive)

Just a question: If the subtitles (srt-file) are not synchronized with the movie file, one can set a delay for the subtitles. This works on locally stored files - but apparently not when the movie and srt-file are streamed from an smb drive? Is this correct?
