Audio delay in VLC app on ios 18.0.1 for Bluetooth versions 5 and above

Postby dsharp75 » 08 Oct 2024 00:11

There is a very noticable and repeatable audio delay when playing music or videos in the VLC app (v3.6.4) on ios v18.0.1; specifically on iPad mini 6. I've tested this with the Sony WF-1000XM5 (Bluetooth 5.3) (this worked fine up until 18.0.1 update on ios), WF-1000XM3 (Bluetooth 5), Skullcandy Crusher Evo (Bluetooth 5) and Marshall Major IV (Bluetooth 5) - all of these have the delay. Additionally, I've tested 2 SkullCandy Sesh earbuds (Bluetooth 4.2) and Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 (Bluetooth 5.2) - these work as expected. I've reset all the headphones/earbuds and forgotten them in the ipad bluetooth section to be safe. I also downloaded the generic "Offline Music Player" ipad app to test if this was an ios thing and not the app, but everything played just fine in it with no delays of any kind so I think it's either a bluetooth audio codec version issue, or something else. Additionally, I tried this on an Android tablet with the VLC app, without issues and of course, all wired connections work as expected.
