skipping songs on my albums

Hello,

Presently I'm using an old iPhone 5S I've repurposed as my music phone. I like to record CDs from my collection onto my old MacBook into iTunes, and then add them to the old iPhone with the Wifi connection in Safari. I've been doing this for years and it's always worked great. But this year after I loaded up my music phone for a long trip, I discovered that VLC won't play all the songs on any given album, but routinely skips songs. I can't find any repeatable pattern to it, although it seems to skip the same songs. But it's not every one or every third one.

I've been using VLC for a long time. I'd love to keep on using it and don't want to jump ship to another music player. I have my reasons for not wanting to use the Music app for my music, otherwise I'm completely in the Appleverse.

My son who turned me on to VLC years ago and is pretty adept at all things sound and tech can't find anything weird in my settings. No shuffle.

My iPhone is on iOS 12.5.7 and my VLC is at v. 3.5.7.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

We found a bug recently that explains that problem and we hope to have this fixed for the next update (I don't have a date yet, but within a few weeks).

Thanks for your report!

Hello Felix Paul

Thank you for your reply. I look forward the a possible fix in the next version. Meantime, I have seen on the Videolan site that older versions of VLC are available for older Macs. I wonder if a similar older version might solve the skipping songs problem on my old iPhone 5S running iOS 12.5.7.

VLC in its current version seems to work without this skipping songs problem on my newer iPhone 13, running 17.4.1.

I see on your website that this is not your day job and you are working on it after hours. So thank you for this app and any help you can give.

Cari

We believe that the problem on your older iPhone is due to scheduling on the slower CPU. It should be working better in the next update that we are currently working on.

We try hard to support older devices (download to iOS 9) with the latest versions of VLC-iOS so there shouldn't be a need to install previous releases (which Apple makes very hard to do btw.).

Oh, OK, thanks for that heads up. For a while I wondered if Apple was messing with it because when I copy my CDs into my old iTunes on my old Mac, some of the albums would literally have track two put in a different folder - because of maybe different artists playing with the main artist? I don’t know, but I corrected those and tried again and it still didn’t help on VLC. But it routinely skips track two anyway on all albums, plus other tracks.

It looks like I have the same issue. I have one music album with over 350 songs (multi-singers, MP3 format), the player will stop at some point without playing all the songs. I am using the latest version VLC (3.5.10(630), IOS ver.16.7.2).

I'm so pleased to say thank you for the upgrade to VLC for iOS. My old iPhone 5S began playing my full albums without any fanfare last week and when I checked the version it had automatically upgraded to 3.6.4. It's lovely to have the functionality back on my old iPhone!

Thank you Felix and developers who did the tech magic to make this still the friendliest app for playing music.
