iPad VLC buttons on screen Skins?

Hi All,
My 2-year-old son watches videos on my iPad on long car rides, but he can't work out how to skip videos because the buttons aren't permanently on the screen. I was wondering whether there is a way to keep the buttons displayed on the screen? I know a skin could do this, but they don't seem to an option for the iPad.
