Version 3.3.11 open network stream problem

Open network stream no longer works on iOS devices (iPhone XR and iPad) at the new release two days ago. Is there a way to roll back to a prior VLC version until this is fixed in a future release?

OMG, help, I have exactly the same problem but on AppleTV. When logging into VLC on AppleTV, I am able to click through SMB folders no prob, but once I get to play any video file, regardless of the format, it starts to load for half a second, then takes me back to the folder.
Have tried everything - deleting the app, restarting the AppleTV, then reinstalling VLC, no help so far. Have changed interlaced settings to off, also turned ipv6, still no help.
I am able to play the video from the folder on iPhones as well as iPads, the tv app is the only one crashing. Running version 3.3.11 (445).
Will highly appreciate any help.

Hello,

Thanks for your reports that match what we see in the reviews on the App Store. I can indeed produce a problem with m3u and pls (aka playlist based) streams. It works ok for raw mp3 and HLS (m3u8).

Note that I cannot reproduce problems with SMB shares. Those play just fine for on Apple TV and iOS.

I'll keep you updated and hope to find a solution soon.

FYI, a fix was submitted to the App Store for review by Apple.

Hopefully the update will fix browsing/playing from a Windows 10 box via SMB. It's been broken since the last update. It keeps asking for a username/password when anonymous always worked. Providing a valid username/password lets me browse but anything I try and play quits back to the menus after 1/2 second.

Thanks for the prompt attention to this problem. I have downloaded the updated version 3.3.12 and the problem is resolved for payback of m3u files.

Hey,
I am having the same problems with mine. I have deleted the old version 3.3.11, I updated the apple tv, restarted the box twice, then reinstalled, which is now version 3.3.12.

It does the same thing, a message flicks up saying please wait then returns to the menu.

Cannot play, AVI or MP4.

What alternative apple TV freeware is there?

I still get the issue when loading an xpsf file on 3.3.12. If I keep on retrying though (5-10 times) it eventually works
