Subtitles in a separate file

Hi, I have been happy using VLC on Linux and Micro$oft for years. Now I have installed VLC for iOS (both on an iPhone and iPad) and I am rather disappointed. In the computer version, it is possible to associate a movie with a separate file with subtitles, which works perfectly. On iOS, in the Subtitles menu, I have just the option to download subtitles from the offer they provide, but no way using an existing subtitles file... Is it a bug or a feature?
