VLC on iOS asking for password when browsing every subfolder of a share

Hi,

I have a TrueNAS system setup, on which I have enabled SMBv1 (as this is the only way I have been able to get VLC to connect to the TrueNAS shares). It uses AD domain permissions on the shares.

When I click "Connect" under network in VLC, and I add in my share details and credentials then press save, I connect to the share but it immediately prompts for credentials. When I enter credentials the share enumerates files and folders, but if I open a subfolder, it immediately prompts for credentials again.

If this expected behaviour?
It makes browsing this share quite tiresome.

Many thanks
Eds

No, this is not the expected behaviour. This sounds very annoying. Are you sure that the password that you stored doesn't have a typo? Can you delete it and save again?

It is very annoying haha!
Yep, definitely no typo as the directory loads ok and I can enumerate subfolders and files.
Have deleted the saved entry and re-added, but still the same :(

I have the same issue. Is there any way to fix this?

I am not using a NAS but a Mac Mini to house the files yet pretty much having the same problem. What *exactly* do you mean by "share details and credentials" ? What are those entered and in what format? All I know is the admin username of the mac mini and its address (given either as an smb://192.168.0.110 or "mcmini.local" I do not understand what is required here.

My iPad connects to the Mac Mini via Files app with no issues whatsoever but VLC cannot due to this constant dialog asking for "DOMAIN;username" - I have no domain, the mac mini's admin username doesn't work, I have no idea what exactly one is supposed to do. All other computers on network connect fine. Just cannot connect VLC to stream a video file due to this SMBv1 (or just SMB if V1 is deactivated). Its impossible to get around and so cryptic.

I'm having the exact same problem... super annoying :x
I am using a Synology NAS though, so I'm thinking it's not the endpoint we're connecting to, it's the client. It was working fine until like a couple of months ago so... any changes in the recent versions?
Same behavior on iOS and tvOS.

Is there any advice for us please, as I'd really like to use my iPad to watch videos from my TrueNAS NAS using VLC, but it's currently broken to the point of not being usable.

Thanks
Eds
