Touch gestures on iPad too sensitive

I have a fairly new iPad Pro (5th gen), and started watching a video. At one point I got a notification. I swiped up to dismiss it, but accidentally missed by a bit. Instead the "swipe up" gesture was interpreted by VLC, and it turned my volume up to 100%. I had to rip off my headphones.

In testing it seems like the volume and brightness gestures are too sensitive, at least on my device. I think it should take more than a finger-width of movement to go from 0-100%. Thanks
