VLC won't properly sort files on DLNA servers

I use VLC extensively on Android, iOS, Android TV and Apple TV to access videos sitting on a DLNA file server on my LAN. Everything about it works great, with the exception of file sorting. My files are organized alpha-numerically by file name (e.g.: S07E15, S07E16, etc.)... however VLC Media Player disregards alpha-numeric data when sorting and there appears to be no way for the user to control how files are displayed. In fact, I don't even understand the logic behind how/why files are displayed the way they are.

Googling the problem reveals that others experience this problem but there is no apparent resolution. Am I missing something? A setting buried deep in the UI?

Please help.

Sadly, there is currently no way to manipulate the sorting behavior on UPnP servers. VLC will request it in the default sorting provided by the UPnP server, which indeed depends on the server software and the configuration. There are ways to request different sorting patterns from UPnP servers, but VLC does not support this.
