File Transfer via iTunes/Finder buggy. Wifi works.

I tried to transfer .mp4 files to VLC on my iPhone SE 2gen via USB from MacOS Catalina. All files could be seen in the iTunes/finder. But when synced only some of the files are visible in VLC. It has nothing to do with file size or filename or extension-name, but an upper limit of around 2.8 Gb total. I tried to delete the files on iTunes/finder, but if I tried to transfer via iCloud, there was an error that said that VLC saw as a file that already had the same name that it couldn't overwrite (and was not shown in the VLC filelist: the filelist in VLC was empty. I had to delete the app and all associated files and download the app again. I then tried via wifi and that worked fine. I have the latest updates of VLC and Catalina. Why is a USB connection not more stable than wifi? I
