Remove/hide passcode setting?

Today we opened our son's iPad to find that VLC had a passcode set. From what I've read, there's no way to recover other than restoring the device from backup. Once we do that, is there a way to remove the ability to set a passcode in the first place? My son is disabled, and he and his disabled cousin were both playing with the iPad before this happened. Neither one understands what a passcode is, so this was set by random button pushing. I'd love to stop them from being able to randomly lock themselves out of their content in the future. Is this possible?

Regrettably, there is no way to disable this feature in VLC's Settings at the moment or hide it.

Note that you only need to delete VLC and reinstall, not the entire iPad, to reset the passcode.
