DTS-HD MA & Dolby True-HD decoding on Apple TV 4K

Postby nicolas1400 » 18 Jan 2022 20:21

Hi,

I was told that the only way to decode DTS-HD MA & Dolby True-HD bitstreams into multichannel PCM on the Apple TV is by using Infuse or MrMC app.
But last night I tried playing some rips I have on my server that include DTS-HD MA or Dolby True-HD tracks and, to my surprise, VLC did output 7.1 Multichannel PCM into my Onkyo receiver.
Is this a 1:1 lossless conversion of the original tracks just like happens with Infuse and MrMC? or is there some downsampling/re-encoding going on inside VLC?
Thanks in advance!

Nicolas.

I have an Onkyo receiver, but after upgrading to tvOS 16, some MKV files with 5.1 sound only plays stereo... Appears multichannel in the receiver, but I noticed that the surround speakers are muted. PrimeVideo or DisneyPlus, such as Netflix the surround sound plays normally. Did you went to this same situation? What did you do? Any thoughts?
