Hi VLC forum.
Im Karl, newbie here with an issue i hope one of you might be able to help with?

I have an AppleTV 4K.
Its hooked up to a HDMI switch/audio extractor which goes to my old Sony DA50-ES surround receiver.
I've set the Apple TV to convert the Dolby Digital plus signal to regular old Dolby Digital, as the receiver is pretty old.
When i play an ac3 file via the remote play function, my receiver switches to the dolby digital logo, ready to output surround, but its playing stereo through the center and the left speaker.
When using other apps the surround works fine, but i dont know whats the problem with the VLC app.
Have any of you experienced this problem?
Hope you have time to help me.
Thanks a lot!
Best Karl

I have an Onkyo receiver, but some MKV files with 5.1 sound only plays stereo... Appears multichannel in the receiver, but I noticed that the surround speakers are muted. PrimeVideo or DisneyPlus, such as Netflix the surround sound plays normally. Did you went to this same situation? What did you do? Any thoughts?

Sorry for the Necro, but...

I am in the same boat, so to speak.

All other apps manage the output in DD 5.1, VLC however outputs 5.1 in Left and Center. Has there been any solution?
(tvos16 + VLC 3.3.10)

Some developers are aware tvOS 16 broke something related to 5.1 in VLC tvOS and they are investigating the issue in order to fix it as soon as possible
