Torrent mkv files

I downloaded some files onto my Windows PC. I can always transfer files to my Ipad using the VLC app - Sharing via wifi.

There are some files that turned out to be mkv. They will play on my PC but when I try to transfer them to my ipad it says FAIL.
I googled and it looks like VLC can work with these files.

Is there any way I can transfer them to my ipad?
