Navigation horrors

I am having a horrible time with the VLC for iOS on my iPad 8.
On my Android pad, the index slider (on bottom) works... allowing for rapid navigation in the file.
On my iPad 8, the index slider (on top) does not work.
Instead of rapid navigation and index of the file, it only offers "high speed scrubbing" (whatever that is supposed to mean) and only increments the file by a few seconds. Totally useless. Once you stop holding it down, it resets to the far left.

Upon being revived from a dormant state, will restart file playback at the beginning, which then requires a lengthy and tedious amount of “high speed scrubbing” to advance the index to the previous point.
And why does the index toggle between "--:--" and the "mm:ss" file position? I can't find any documentation or feature that it controls.

What happened to the functionality of VLC?

You need to play with the slider. If you touch and then move the finger down the screen without releasing, this will adapt the playback speed (so from "high speed" to more granular seeking). The "--:--" timing usually displays when VLC cannot precisely calculate the time you are seeking and falls back to the relative position within the file.

THANK YOU, but that is exactly NOT what I want to do.

VLC navigation slider in desktops and Android tablets is an indexed slider that immediately moves you backwards or forwards.
In iOS, it acts like a variable ffwd, jumping a few seconds at a time.
Is there some setting in VLC or iOS that makes the VLC for iPAD work like an indexed slider?
