Issues with Google Drive on older devices

Hello,
I have an “iPad 2 2012 Wifi” running iOS 9.3.5 with VLC 3.1.9, and I am trying to connect it to my Google Drive so that I can access videos over cloud services rather than using the 16 GB internal storage for everything. However, there is an issue that occurs when I try to login to Google. The login page always throws an error “Cannot open page: Safari cannot open the page because the address is invalid.” then redirects me to Google’s homepage, and pressing Done takes me back to a login button. I assume this happens due to iOS 9 not supporting the redirect to app Google is trying to use, since the process went smoothly on a 6th Generation iPad on iOS 12.3.1, also using VLC 3.1.9. It isn’t a huge deal to not be able to use Google Drive, but if it could be fixed it would make my life slightly easier. I also saw a couple other forum posts with the same information, but the most recent one with this issue I found had a most recent post from over two weeks ago (June 24th) with no response, I figured it’d be best to just make a new topic. Thanks in advance.

Installing an older version and updating no longer works with the recent release of 3.3.8. Unfortunately I can't seem to find 3.3.7 to downgrade to either...
