MKV, MP4 and SRT issues

All of a sudden, VLC for iOS doesn't display MKV, MP4 and SRT files when I use Cloud Services to connect to Dropbox. The files are there, but they just don't show in the file list. MOV files show, but not MKV, MP4 or SRT. And if a folder in Dropbox contains only the offending file types then the folder won't show up; it has to contain at least one of some other kind of file.
I thought this might be related to upgrading VLC to version 3.1.9, but my friend who is still running version 3.1.5 experiences the same thing when accessing the same Dropbox account.
(I just tested for AVI files and they don't show up either.)
If I go through the Cloud Services item instead of Dropbox and then go to my Dropbox account that way, I see the MKV and MP4 files and can download them that way but the SRT files are grayed out and inaccessible.
I have tried disconnecting VLC from that Dropbox account and reconnecting several times, but it never helps. This just started happening in the last few weeks, which is why I at first thought it was related to the app upgrade, which I did 3 weeks ago. But since it is also happening with an unupgraded version of the app, I guess not. I kind of vaguely recall something like this happening several years ago, but I could be wrong and, if it did, I have no recollection of how it got fixed.
Anybody have any suggestions for how to fix this?
