VLC for IOS 3.17 will not connect to SMB

I have a Western Digital "My Passport Wireless Pro" which I have used to stream "Local Network" movies and it worked fine with V3.16 but now with the V3.17 update I can click on Local Network and the "MYPASSPORT" is listed under the Files Serves (SMB) and if I click on it the "Connect to Server" Box pops up and after entering User Name and Password and then clicking on Connect it just shows a spinning wheel and never connects. Worked fine with V3.16 ??
Anyone have a fix for this ??

Any chance you can push out the prior version so VLC works with SMB until you figure out the issue?

Same problem here.

Apple TV 4th Gen 64GB running tvOS 12.1.2. Just updated to VLC 3.04 (307). Still sees my Time-Capsule SMB in Local Network but when connecting I now see only 'Empty Folder' screen. Everything was working fine before the update.

However, VLC for iOS 3.1.6 (321) on iPad works fine on same network. Can see all media content on two connected drives to the TC.

Hoping for quick fix! :geek:

I have the same issue. One observation is that it seems to work if I use the IP address directly. However, tvOS doesn't allow to input the hostname (at least I can't figure out)

That is an interesting notice.

same issue. I love VLC but now I can't have any access from network drive. it only shows empty folder. I attached my external hdd to wifi louter and I was always able to find my hdd via network drive from VLC. I can still play by using file explorer or some other programs. However, I like the VLC the best because subtitle, interface and connectivity to all my other gadgets. please fix this as soon as possible . I don't want to see "empty folder" forever...

I have had the same problem with ios ver 3.1.7. I usually skip entering anything into the port field. In my case to make it now connect I needed to add 1024 in the port field. The last field was left as workgroup.
Hope this helps.

Adding 1024 to the port corrected my problem with VLC 3.1.7 (I left the workgroup with my personal label). If that can be implemented in TVOS VLC then that might solve the problem.

Thank you, once I put the port "1024" it works on my iPhone. However tvOS has no option to port number it only allows to put Id and password. is there anyway that we can put port number on tvOS? if not, can VLC update with adding port section on tv os?

You can use any port number and it will work on iPhone/iPad.
Ex. Port 1, 1024, 5556, etc.
I don’t have tvOS to test but if you can add a colon and a number to the server name. It should work.
Ex. SERVER:1

Got it to work! Thanks for the tip, Ibuyss! Setup is Apple Time Capsule (old flat version) and AppleTV 4K 32 Gb.

The only thing is that you need to change the name of the Time Capsule to the port number (I changed mine to 1024) and NO LETTERS in the field. So go to AirPort Utility in a Mac or iOS and change the Time Capsule or AirPort name to just a port number (not sure if other numbers work. Used 1024 as that port number worked on my iOS VLC apps) then restart/update the Time Capsule/AirPort. I initially tried a name with colon then port number, but it didn't work since VLC TVOs turns all punctuation into dashes. I guess the server name field in TVOS is now actually the port field?

At least it's working again until they make another update.

That workaround worked for me too.

Keeping the server name with characters works if you use the VLC apps which allow input of a port. You can enter any number in the Port field (e.g. 1, 10, 100, etc.). However, tvOS does NOT have a port field. I renamed my server to just numbers (e.g. 2000) and that allowed the tvOS app to connect to the new numbers-only server.

I suppose when the problem is fixed I'll rename the server back to letters but for now this work around was clutch. Thanks!
