Frame by frame playback is only partially supported in VLCKit 3 and 4 for a maximum of 20 consecutive frames. This will be properly supported in VLCKit 5 which is scheduled for release by the end of next year (yes, that's 2020!).

can you explain what “kits” are? I’m not a developer or anything, I’m just some guy with an iPad.

Sorry, VLCKit is our library for developers to integrate our software in their apps.

Regarding the feature you asked for, as said in my previous answer, this will probably be available in 2020.
