VLC renders all video in OpenGL and we don't have plans for a Metal based video output. At present, Apple does not offer sufficient document for HDR rendering in OpenGL, but we are trying to work with them to find out more.

Infuse has more employees maybe while VLC is a free app, both in money and source code?
Help is welcome!

Sorry, but this is not a viable business model. Thanks for your interest though and be assured that this will come in future versions of VLC-tvOS.

Hi there,
Does anyone know if VLC for TVOS is now supporting HDR? I have an encoder in my house and use the network stream to pick up my streams in other areas of the house, it works great with VLC but is all 1080P SDR and I intend to upgrade to 4k60 HDR10...... will VLC still work at this configuration?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
David

It will definitely display the content you describe just fine. However, the HDR colors will be tone-mapped to SDR for now. This is probably going to change in version 4 (for which I cannot give a release date yet).

OK, thanks for the clear info. Mixed news I guess, I.e. glad it will play but still not giving HDR.
I really hope we can have HDR soon.
