VLC for iOS with Mac Local Network

Postby dealtek » 12 Jul 2018 16:44

Hi all,

I could use some help Setting up the local network for VLC - IOS.

Currently, when I click on the local network I see my Mac computer - when I click Connect, it seems to connect but the window shows no files.

Quite possibly, when I connect to server, maybe I'm not using the correct settings such as SMB or FTP etc.

Also I'm not sure what to set up on my Mac Computer to show and expose various video files. I do Have File Sharing turned on - on that computer.

Any help in setting this up would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks – Dave

Hi,

To connect to the file sharing, the correct protocol is SMB.
On macOS, by default you will need to connect(username & password) to access your shared files.
If you want to avoid that you can:
  • Go to settings -> Users & Groups
  • Select "Guest User" under "Other Users"(you might need to unlock at the bottom left to make changes).
  • Click on: "Allow guest users to connect to shared folders"
After all that, you should see your shared directories & files!

Well thank you so much bubu - it must be your magic - but now it's working!

I did connect by local IP rather than computer name - maybe that helped

Thanks Again!
