Video buffering via local network to IOS app

Hi everyone,

This is my first time here and I'm desperate for help... I have googled and searched these forums for the past hour and it would appear i am the only person with the issue.

ISSUE:
I have the VLC app installed on an iPad Air so that I can stream content from my server while I'm cooking or somewhere else in the house etc, but if i try and watch almost anything above SD it buffers so much it takes 2 hours to watch a 20 minute episode (watching movies is impossible). I have connected via HTTP sharing and i have full wifi signal and my hub is a gigabit. As soon as the first bufffer happens, it will rebuffer after about 1 second of playback and continues from there.

Is there anything i can do short of switching to a different app? I have gone through alllllllllllll 3 settings vlc seems to have on IOS (Over-exaggerating) and nothing seems to make any sort of difference...
