NAS not visible in SMB - VLC 1.1.0 on tvOS 11.1

Postby fguern » 22 Nov 2017 22:37

Hey guys,

I am new to this forum.

I am using VLC on my AppleTV for more two years now. Vlc usually discover my Synology NAS with SMB under the Local Network but starting today it doesn't and I had to activate the FTP protocol on the NAS. This way, the NAS is visible under Local Network.
I think the problem is coming from VLC :
- the NAS is accessible from a MAC through a brower
- the NAS is accessible from the appleTV through the VIDEO app of Synology

As SMB is more flexible I would like to come back to this option.

I guess it is an upgrade problem coming from tvOS11.1 or VLC 1.1.0.

Cheers

Here is what I tried :
- connect directly the appletv to the NAS
- connect both appletv and was to a router / then to a switch
- desactivate/reactivate SMB protocol and Bonjour protocol
- Reboot all the devices

I have the same issue but on iOS.

My Modem/router, like many these days, has an onboard storage feature, NAS/SMB with UPnP. It is a fairly basic router with no FTP option.

I am new to VLC on iOS, just installed it, it is version 2.8.5. VLC does not see the share at all. Windows sees it as does the Readdle Documents App on iOS.

Any help appreciated.

An update, I got it to work, my fault.

All I did was set up the Storage Service in my router then give it an account and password.

Then in VLC set up a new Windows SMB share, type in the IP Address of the router, then the account and password. Boom VLC found it and it works over WiFi.

Sorry for any confusion, great App!
