Trouble connecting to external harddrive through VLC iOs app

Hello,

I have an Airport Extreme that I use both as a Wifi router and external hard drive. I recently discovered that you could connect to the hard drive through the VLC app, but I have been unable to connect both on my Iphone and Apple TV. I am trying to connect through SMB.

On my phone I open the menu and press local network and I automatically see the hard drive in the menu, but the app automatically closes. On my Apple TV I open the app and see that hard drive here as well, but again it closes automatically after a few seconds. I have no problems connecting to the hard drive on my computer.

Has anyone else experienced the same issue, or have any ideas what is causing the app to "crash"? All help is appreciated!

I seem to be having a similar issue with the Apple TV app—if I open the app when the Apple TV is connected to the same network as my Time Capsule, the app crashes.
