Video won't play, jumps back to folders

I have Apple TV 4 IOS 10.1.1 and the latest VLC app. I am trying to play local network files from my Win 7 PC (.mp4, ripped with handbrake). I see the files with artwork just fine. When I attempt to play the files, the screen briefly jumps to the 'play' screen (with the large orange cone in the middle), but immediately jumps back to the folder view. I've tried several different video files. I am able to play these same files fine with other programs.

Same issue here... sporadic though as not all .m4v /.mp4 files have this issue.
...although I used HandBrake (Version 0.10.5 x86_64 (2016021100)) for MacOS

It looks like it may be a bug that needs to be addressed through a software update.

I look forward to any feedback the forum has.
