VLC on TvOS - Configuration

Hi there
Have just purchased Apple TV 4 and installed the VLC app. Looking to stream recordings from my Synology DS413j NAS, via Ethernet (with a Fast Ethernet hub connecting the two devices). The files are in .mpg format. I'm getting stuttering which may be for a number of reasons and I have not yet resolved the essential problem. One thing I have noticed however is that (as far as I can see), the number of configuration options available to VLC on the Apple TV is nowhere near as rich as what is available for me on my Mac. Apart from what I can see in the Settings option on the Apple TV, is there another way to fine-tune the VLC app as I debug the problem? I have read through the documentation posted elsewhere on this side re VLC for iOS.

Ideally I'd be looking to stream directly from the NAS with no need to have an intermediary device e.g. my iMac running. Also from what I understand there is no need to install VLC on the NAS where I have DSM Medial Server enabled and all the data files indexed.
