VLC for iOS 2.7.7 with AC-3 Support with "older" devices?

Hi all,

according to the release notes in the app store, version 2.7.7 comes with AC-3 and E-AC-3 support for iOS 9.3 and newer devices, which is great news!
On my brand new iPad Pro 9.7 (iOS 9.3.1) everything works fine.
But on my iPad 4 (with iOS 9.3.1) there is no AC3 sound. The same problem is with my iPhone 4S (iOS 9.3.1). In both cases, sometimes there is simply no sound. Sometimes the error message "Codec not supported: VLC could not decode the format "a52" (A52 Audio (aka AC3))" appears.

Are there any additional prerequisites to fulfill?

Best regards
Rainer

It does not seem to be supported for all devices. If you go to this page and scroll down a bit, you should see all supported devices: http://developer.dolby.com/tools-tech.aspx#apple

Thank you very much. That explains everything. It would have been helpful if Apple would have had this information in its release notes.

Damn it! Back to my archived 2.3.0 for me and my 4th gen iPad, with automatic updates disabled once more. Ah, the fun of being an Apple user.

The good news is that most recently released iOS devices has been updated with perfect support for AC3 audio codec with VLC media player. So that I won't have any problems to work with AC3 audio on my newly purchased iPhone 8/8 Plus.
