iPad - VLC crashes when subtitles begin

VLC for IOS version 2.7.6 (276.2)

I have created some MKV files from a blu-ray using Handbrake. The MKV includes the original English audio and subtitle tracks. If I have subtitles enabled in VLC for iOS on my iPad, then VLC crashes at the point the first subtitle would appear. If I disable subtitles, then it's fine. On VLC for Windows the same file plays without problems whether subtitles are enabled or not.

Is this a known problem for which a fix might be on the way? Googling suggests that it has come up in the past but was thought to have been fixed?? Alternatively, Is there a different way to incorporate subtitles into the MKV which won't cause VLC to crash?

Thanks,

Pete

We see the crash reports, but we never had a sample file to reproduce and fix this issue (see ticket 16873). It would be amazing if you share one privately with us on http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ and ping this thread once done.

Hi, I've generated a 30s clip that demonstrates the same problem and uploaded it. Thanks for all your good work :-)

Well I see you've fixed it :-). When might we expect the fixed version to appear in the app store? [genuine question, not a prod! I've no idea what the release cycle timescales look like]

Thanks again.

I hope to submit an update fixing the issue within 48 hours from now. Afterwards, it usually takes Apple 4 to 6 days to review the update and publish it on the store. So, in other words, it should be out late next week.
