Stream to IOS from wmp DLNA server

Hello - First of all, I hope this is the right forum.
My mission: Connect to my windows server, using the built in WMP DLNA server, from my iPad, to stream (not convert, not download, just stream) and watch movies in my home, on my iPad.
My Smart-tv and Android phone connects and streams fine from the library.

Downloaded VLC 2.7.2 from Appstore, on my ipad (IOS9.3). Thru Local Network I can see the DLNA server (Just called 'SERVER'), and then I can see a list of the movies in the library.
The movies are listed with Title, Duration, and a size (ie 199,3 MB), which I don't understand (The size shown is not the filesize on the server).

When I touch any movie on the list, it tells me:
Your input can't be opened. VLC is unable to open the MRL RTSP://192.168.2.57:554/blabla/blablabla.wmv?formatid=134. Check the log for details.

Well, I can't find the log on my iPad.
And why is the fileextension shown as blabla.wmv, since the movies is stored in .mp4 (or .m4v) (Handbraked)?

So: Am I trying to do something, that can't be done? (Stream from Win 10 WMP dlna server to IOS device?)
Best regards, Jakob

I have the exact same problem from my iPhone6, 64gb iOS 9.3.1.

My server is Windows Media Player on Windows 7 64bit. I can view the videos on all of my Smart TVs and on the MediaConnect iOS app (http://itunes.apple.com/ro/app/id335036887) on the same iPhone, so I am pretty certain it is not a firewall issue.

I select "Local Network". The SMB servers appear, and then after a second or so, the UPnP server appears.
I select the UPnP server and navigate the folders until the list of movies appear.
When I select a movie (any more, I have tried many, of all different formats and encodings), it always reports:

Your input cannot be opened
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://192.168.1.71:10243/WMPNSSv4/1705 ... ormatId=80'.
Check the log for details.
