I am playing an AVI file with VLC 1.0.2 (the file is on a SMB share).

After about 10 minutes, VLC seems to crash and just return to the Home screen. So far this has happened twice at different locations.

Is there any way I can send you a crash file?

Usually crash reports will get shared, when activated in your setting on the AppleTV.

VLC automatically sends crash reports regardless of the system setting and I see something that is probably related to your issue. Thanks for the report!

I have had the same issue with all versions I installed from the App Store. Also, it does not matter if the file is from an SMB or FTP share. After approx. 10 munites, VLC just quits and returns to the home screen. However, if I compile VLC from source myself and run it, I do not have this issue.

I also have this same problem on my Apple TV. Right around 10 minutes in, it will simply crash to the home screen. I'll go back in, navigate to where it left off, and around 10 minutes later, the same thing will happen. Incredibly annoying in general, but especially on longer videos where it happens multiple times, every 10 minutes.

How do you access those videos precisely? and what's their file type?

The files are on an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended. Connected to my time capsule. So I suppose an smb share. The files vary. Most are MP4, some are avi.

happens for me to. my vids are usually avi mkv or mp4 and always mounted via samba on a synology.

I'm having the same issue. Mixture of mkv, avi, and mp4 files on a hard drive connected to my AirPort Extreme, which is connected by ethernet to the ATV. Just started over the last few weeks.

Bumping this thread. Anyone with an answer as far as a fix for this issue, or a possible update coming soon?

It seems like similar thing is happening to me. I am using Apple TV 4 with latest tvOS. I have installed VLC, uploaded 4 mp4s onto it via WiFi (300-400MB each) and everything seemed to be working great until it didn't. Now, when I launch VLC and scroll anywhere to the right (like WiFi upload section), VLC seems to be crashing - I am getting moved to the home screen. I have tried to remove VLC and reinstall it (so mp4 should be gone), but it still crashes... Any ideas? Perhaps there is some more detail I can give you so you can investigate?

We have december 2019 and issue still occurs. I can't watch any movie on my Apple TV 4K. Everytime I try VLC crashes. In my case I am using DLNA server UMS and VLC on Apple TV 4K is my player.
