iPhone and videos from external memory via VLC

Hi there!

Lately I started using external memory for my iPhone (Leef iBridge, handled in MobileMemory app) and I was wondering if making videos on external device watchable via VLC could be possible? Currently I have to transfer files from iBridge to iPhone memory to watch it in VLC (so for obvious reasons it does not make sense as I still have to use phone's internal memory).

I was wondering if by any chance is it planned in future VLC version to be able to explore external device and play movies directly from it?

Thanks for the answer in advance.

All best,
Premysl

There is no endorsed way to browse external storage devices on iOS, because for Apple, they don't really exist.

However, a couple of manufacturers integrated their apps with VLC for direct playback or even took VLC's playback component to their own apps.

Hi, thanks for a quick answer.

Pity, I though that maybe since there's an option to watch via stream or from cloud (which in my laic understanding is something "external"), there could be also an option in VLC to detect iBridge type device and explore it from VLC directly, resulting later in direct playback.
Then, from what you write - do I understand correctly that the solution could be to work from another side? I mean to propose to Leef to integrate their MobileMemory app with VLC or to integrate VLC components in it?

Thanks for the info!
All best, P

Yes, the other way around is easier indeed. We worked with Sandisk and other storage device manufacturers before and it is usually very simple for them to do.
