What sample rate does VLC pass through the HDMI port of the AppleTv/tvOS? I am specifically wondering about hi res sample rates like 24/96 and 24/192.

VLC for tvOS uses the sample rate of the input media. However, it down mixes to 2.0 if needed.

So, VLC will pass through 24/96 is the file is 24/96, the AppleTV won't down sample it to 16/48?

It is possible that the Apple TV itself down samples (probably depending on the receiver's capabilities connected via HDMI), but that's an implementation detail of the box we can't influence.

Hmmm, my receiver is capable of 24/192, but doesn't display what it is receiving. Everything I have read until this release (and Firecore's inFuse) has speculated that the AppleTV down samples all PCM to 16/48 regardless of what box is connected via HDMI. Would be great to know what you all see with your testing of AppleTV outputs from VLC.
