how to turn off subtitles on tvOS?

When I play a movie using VLC on tvOS it displays subtitles by default. How do I turn the subtitles off? And is there a way to get VLC to never show me subtitles again?

To disable subtitles, see the top-overlay (swipe down to reveal). There is currently no option to never show subtitles.
