VLC for tvOS - Empty Folder over SMB

I just downloaded VLC for my Apple TV and can't access my network share. It sees the SMB share and when I click on it, it asks for a username and password. After I enter it, I just get a screen that says "Empty Folder". When I access the same share with any other device, it shows a list of drives that are inside that main share. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Also, are there any plans for NFS support? I've found that NFS streaming is much better then SMB for large files.

Thanks in advance.

This isn't going to help you directly but I registered just to say I have exactly the same problem! Every other app sees the folders just fine, including Vlc on iOS...
I had it working for me randomly once, not sure how that happened... I watched a movie for a bit but when I wanted to resume watching it, I was unable to access my folders again through Vlc for Apple TV :(

Also just signed up in this forum to experience this problem. Apps like Nastily Player or Infuse find it perfectly fine.

Same here. It sees the shares + contents I have set up on my Macs, but not on my AirPort Time Capsule + connected USB drives.

We are aware of the issue, but we need more information about the SMB servers you are having issues with. Please be as precise as possible. Thanks!

WD MyCloud and Time Capsule. Doesn't even login, since I can put whatever username and password, it always seems to accept it.

Edit: Ich dachte Ihr testet den Kram wenigstens einmal.

Same problem. It says empty folder with a basic SMB share on the latest release of OS X El Capitan.

It seems very strange that nobody beta tested an app for the Apple TV.. to be compatible with the latest release of Apple's flagship operating system.

Thanks for the hard work!

AirPort Extreme with WD My Book drive attached. I also have a Windows pc sharing through smb which vlc for Apple TV sees the folders just fine in. Seems to be related to how Apple or certain devices/OS's interpret smb?

Hi yes my VLC on Apple TV is also showing empty folders. I am using Windows 10. I have been waiting for VLC to come onto atv. Very disappointed that I am unable to get it to work. I have never had a user name or password on my streamer. What is this referring too?

Many attempts to get this app working here is what i found so far.

ATV4->Airport Extreme shows Empty Folder. File sharing enabled secured with device password firmware version 7.6.1
ATV4->MacBook(Media Server) shows Empty Folder. File sharing enabled OS X version 10.6.8
ATV4->Windows10 machine seems to be work fine

iPad->Same Airport Extreme seems to work fine
iPad->Same Macbook connects but shows a blank screen(although the network icon keeps spinning)
iPad->Windows10 machine seems to work fine

Thanks in advance!

Seeing as how it's mostly windows shares that are working, could it be related to the Windows 'nobody' account for guess access?

I've tried different accounts to log in and it ended up working with the root account. It was useless because I have no sound, but I guess that goes in a different topic
