Cast to Samsung TV

Is it possible to play/cast a video from VLC to a Samsung TV? Youtube can do it and some other apps including an official Samsung app so I guess an Apple TV isn't required since they probably use dlna. Any ideas?

If this is just Chromecast, this will work in a future version of VLC. If it is indeed a private extension of the UPnP standard, then we need further information on how this is done to make it work.

What has a private extension of UPnP? The TV or Youtube? Im afraid i didnt fully understand you.
