Network drive access issue

Hi,
I am not able to access my network drive. First I enable the sharing via wifi tab than I clicked on local network - connect to server, I filled out the router info ( router address, user name and password est) but after all when I pushed the button connect to server an error message poped up saying: " server connection failed, please check your server adress and credentials". now, with other players everything is working fine with the same router adress and credentials. What am I missing here?

Is your network drive capable of the UPnP multimedia protocol or FTP? Note that in contrast to a handful of competitors, current versions of VLC don't support SMB (it's coming!).

Hi,
"Is your network drive capable of the UPnP multimedia protocol or FTP", do you mean my router or my external device?
Anyway, for my best knowledge my router (Netgear DGN2200) does support this protocols.http://support.netgear.com/product/DGN2200v4
I assume your question has nothing to do with my external HD but for any case i am attaching his model http://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-324.

Sorry, my answer was ambiguous.

The question I wanted to is: how does your router share the files stored on your external drive?

Quite likely, you need SMB support which is not part of the current version of VLC for iOS.
