Video problems on VLC App

I have a 960x720 video that is only :30. When I go to play the video in the VLC app on my iPod Touch (6th Generation), either you hear the audio, see the first frame but it does not play in it's entirety and freezes, or it starts to play but then the video glitches, turning into a grey color like there is some sort of glitch with the video, which there isn't. The video looks fine on my desktop. What could be the problem?

Does it work correctly with other videos?

I works well w/ video that is the appropriate size for video on iPods which is 320x340. It plays ok with those settings, but anything higher it struggles, but would really prefer higher settings.

Are you sure you have an iPod 6th gen. sold July 2015 and later? Actually, this is a really powerful device so with current versions of VLC, it should play up to 1080p (OK, this will turn it quite hot and drain the battery badly), in the next major release possibly even up to 4K.
