Local Network lockup?

I've been happily using VLC iOS 2.5.1 for quite some time, however, in the past couple of days selecting 'Open Local' is causing the application to hang. The categories appear (UPnP, Plex, ftp, VLC) but tapping on Connect is just unresponsive.
I was using this extensively to access my ftp server without difficulties, now I can't get to the option to connect any more. I can open a stream in VLC from the NAS I usually connect to by using a URL, that's all.
I had a DLNA server set up on my NAS which did appear in this list, under the uPnP devices, so I thought that may be the problem as it isn't appearing any more and disabled it, but I still get the lockup. I have both an iPad and an iPhone and they both exhibit the same behaviour.
Any ideas on what I can look at? There's obviously not a software update for VLC, I haven't updated iOS, I've tried removing and reinstalling VLC, none of the devices on my network have changed and nothing has been added, yet it all stopped working at the same time. Makes me think something somewhere is messing up UPnP but how can I troubleshoot?
Thanks for any help!
