Using VLC as media player with existing videos

I love VLC media player that I use on my PC. I want to use it as a media player on my Ipad 2 & Ipad mini. I already have videos on my Ipad mini and really dislike the limitations of the ipad video player. This is why I was so excited to see VLC for IOS. But if I understand this correctly, I have to delete these videos off the Ipad, then somehow download them from the internet back onto my ipad before I can use them with VLC . Is this correct? I cannot somehow get VLC to recognize the already stored videos on my ipad? Please help.

BTW if this topic was already covered I could not find it using the search.

No, VLC does not have access to the media stored within the default video playback app on iPad. However, this app allows you to download your media to your Mac or PC using iTunes. For detailed information how to sync media to VLC for iOS, please see our wiki: https://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation:IOS/

Yeah it is sad that VLC still not fully backed into iOS platform. I am waiting anxiously to see when the complete package arrives.
