Feature request - control UPNP server

I like how I can play music from my UPNP server. What would be even more amazing if I could use VLC to stream from my UPNP server to other UPNP clients in my network. I am thinking of VLC basically acting as a remote, but not being an intermediary. So, the actual stream would not be "UPNP sever -> VLC IOS -> UPNP client", but instead directly "UPNP server -> UPNP client" (triggered by VLC IOS). This would also allow to play AC3 on the UPNP client as long as the UPNP client is capable to play it.

What do you think? Any chance to see this implemented in one of the next releases? For both music and videos? :-)

This is not part of the UPnP specification as implemented by VLC. UPnP is meant for device to device connections, not for device to device but controlled by something else.

I am thinking of something that DLNA specification call "M-DMS" (Mobile Digital Media Controller). Does something like this not exist in the UPNP specs? I really love this feature with some other apps, but love to switch to VLC as the leading player.

Would such an implementation of a "controller feature" be on the roadmap? It would be really nice to have the choice whether I can play movies on my IOS device or stream it to television. The streaming with airplay has several limitations, so don't think this can be the future. Also with the support of Plex and other servers, I am sure that the user group interested in "play-to" models will be increasing. Thanks in advance!

In my personal opinion, pure remote control apps should be out of scope of VLC for iOS, at least for now. I mean, VLC is a software for direct playback, or maybe delegated playback to devices like AirPlay.

Remote control apps should do more than controlling upnp servers, namely controlling other VLC instances as well at least (if they are developed by us :-))
