netsync on iOS

Postby groovecho » 11 Sep 2014 02:55

Is netsync implemented in the AppStore iOS app?

https://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation:Modules/netsync

If not, can it be enabled by building from the github repo?

It looks like it is part of MobileVLCKit: VLCKit/MobileVLCKit/ImportedSources/vlc/modules/control/netsync.c

I was able to get libnetsync built in MobileVLCKit on my Mac but have not tried using it or referencing it, yet. If anyone has had any success, I'd love to hear more about it. I've done testing with netsync on OSX and it is pretty glorious.

My application is streaming audio. I work with a group of people to do organized runs and bike rides to music played out a mix of loud speakers and small bluetooth speakers connected to smartphones mixed through the crowd. We'd like to get the music in sync enough so that organizers/music players can move around the group freely without echo or delay between audio sources. The real challenge is doing this over LTE networks. Using multicast over LAN works beautifully as it is.
