VLC to Airplay ATV, now only audio! Pls help

Postby Beasty2k » 08 Sep 2014 12:56

Hi all,

I have used the VLC app on my iPhone 5 to stream videos (mostly avi) from my ftp-server to my Apple-tv. This has worked flawlessly for about a year.

About a week ago, it suddenly stopped working and now only plays the audio. The Apple-TV seems to think I am only playing an audio-file.

(the mirroring functionality actually works, but the video is too laggy and not watchable vs. my experience of airplaying it directly. So it's really not an option for me).

Any idea what this might be?

It's as though VLC doesn't convert the file "on the fly" anymore, but rather just sends it as an audio-file to the apple-TV. For the record, I have tried using Buzz-player with the same results. Buzz used to have the option, upon selecting a file, that said "Play with live conversion" along with a few other options. Now that option is gone, and I can only choose "Play".

The only thing I have "changed" is that I have been playing around with a DLNA server at home, but this shouldn't affect anything as I am very careful to use the FTP-connection I always have.

I have tried resetting my Apple-TV to factory defaults, and rebooted my iPhone 5 numerous times. I have also deleted any potentially interfering apps that I installed while playing around with the DLNA server.

To conclude - why does my iPhone VLC app suddenly only send the audio from an avi-file on my ftp server to airplay, and acts as though it doesn't need to convert the avi anymore?

Thanks very much for your help!

Oh, and the DLNA I have been messing around with is Twonky. I activated that through my NAS, and downloaded appropriate apps to access it. It was around this time the avi-files I play with VLC started sending only audio to the Apple-TV.

Could my experimenting with Twonky (and the associated apps on the iPhone 5) have messed up some hidden setting in my iPhone sending them as an audio-file to the Apple-TV, instead of converting them? If so, I can't find anyway to change it back.

I have deleted all apps from the iPhone, but still no luck.

Pls help!
