Is it a common issue?
PS: thank you to the developers for this free app.

The error is "CONNESSIONE AL SERVER NON RIUSCITA. CONTROLLA L'INDIRIZZO DEL SERVER E LE CREDENZIALI".
With other FTP clients I can succesfully connect to it.
Thanks

Hi,
I've just downloaded vlc 2.4.1 and I have the same problem: I want to stream videos from my synology nas but I can't connect with ftp and I am faced with the same error message.
I can connect with other ios apps (like nplayer, avplayer hd) and mac os ftp clients by typing : ftp://<nas-local-ip>:21
Hope you can help. Thanks.

Same issue here...
VLC 2.7.2 Mobile (atv4). Disk conencted to tp-link archer router, set up as ftp streamer on 192.168.0.1:21, pass protected.
However, i dont know, how to connect to the disk with VLC, so it can read its content...
Infuse (atv4) works, with clear ftp setup, AcePlayer (iphone6) works too, also with clear ftp setup (clear ftp setup means, that i choose FTP connection from menu, and setup username, pass, address and port)
any help, idea, anything?
thx,
peter

I was experiencing a similar issue. I could use other ftp clients, and successfully connect, but not connect with the vlc app for ios. I would just get the same error as reported here, "SERVER CONNECTION FAILED Please check your server address and credentials".
I decided to change the password, as I was using a # in my password, and considered that it may not be properly encoded when transmitting the credentials. Sure enough, that fixed the issue.
So I think that one of the reasons that may be causing this problem is that the passwords are not being properly encoded.
