Hello,

VLC developer here,

I see only two components that could change the audio in VLC

- The Equalizer: by mistake,it was always enabled in the past iOS versions. This had been fixed (it is now disabled by default).

- The clock that is doing A/V synchronization (yes it also happens if you don't have video). The audio can be resampled in order to catch up with a delay.
It is only fixed in VLC 4.0. In this future version, audio will never be tempered to catch up with a delay again.

In the meantime (since VLC for IOS is still using VLC 3.0), I did my best to minimize this re-sampling on iOS.
In the last iOS version, from my tests, the audio track is starting without triggering the resampler, but this could depend on the iOS device, audio headphone/soundcard, or sample.

If you still have this issue now, could you share with me:
- Your device
- Your audio configuration: speaker/headphone/bluetooth (which device?)
- Your audio/video sample.
Issue still exists on analogue out. Have PM'd you more info (although it's sitting in Outbox and not Sent, so I don't know if it's actually sent to you)

Volume is fluctuating wildly on iOS VLC player while watching videos on my iPad Pro 3rd Gen with headphones plugged in through the USB-C port. The sound will jump all the way up and all the way down. It will also incrementally climb until it reaches max volume.

I have tried restarting app and iOS. I've gone through settings to no avail. The only thing that holds the volume constant is if I physically hold the volume bar, which of course is undesirable.

I'm using:

iPad Pro 12.9 inch (3rd Gen)
iOS 12.3
Apple USB-C to 1/8" aux adapter
Bose QC Headphones

Any ideas what can be done?

Thank you,
Brandon

It was doing the same thing for me on my school iPad with .wav files (the most prominent one was Moon Patrol De-Rastered by Chris Allen, download at https://bit.ly/MoonPatrolDeRastered for the file in question), and something that seemed to help (I can't tell if the issue is entirely gone or not, which is far better than before) was going into the equalizer and switching to "Flat", then back to "Off", and setting the preamp to 0dB. The fast fluctuations issue is entirely gone, the slow adjustment might still be there but it's not prominent. I didn't get a look at the default equalizer settings, but this procedure helped massively.

I just tested if the setting persists, and annoyingly it doesn't. After you hit Done and audio stops, the next time you open a playlist the equalizer looks normal but still has the problem. You can leave it on "Off" without switching to "Flat", though, you just have to adjust the preamp, let it apply, then bring it back to zero. This fixes the problem for as long as something is playing. Seems the problem is that the default settings don't match what the equalizer menu displays when initialized.
