Move VLC folder off ipad - create cloud media groups & playlists

My iPad has limited space for me to add content. Is it possible to move the VLC folder to a flash drive and still have available functionality such as media groups and playlists?

I guess my question also extends to cloud drives - can you create media groups and playlists from files on cloud, or other external drives?
